All Aboard the Illustrator Bus!

Hello, oh wow (coughs, splutters, blows dust off ) it’s dusty in here, let me just get rid of these cobwebs…this corner of my website is veerrrry neglected. Oh dear.

Anyway! I wanted to start writing here again, so hello! Last month I had a lovely day drawing with Ruby Wright a couple of weeks ago, on a London Bus! We drew on a bus! It was hilarious and wonderful. It was an outing organised by The AOI and Blend Illustration, (who you’ll find on instagram) It’s a series of meet-up events which they do regularly in various locations.

We met firstly at Royal Festival Hall, chatted a little bit about illustration with Ruby and pored over her AMAZING SKETCHBOOKS and then set off to catch a bus to Regents Park.

It was hilarious - about twenty of us all piled onto the top deck, and began drawing. None of the other passengers batted an eyelid. Pretty soon I was absorbed in the task at hand - I had to really concentrate and try not to feel motion sickness. Then we all piled off again at Regent’s Park, sat on the grass and looked at all our drawings.

It was great to finally meet Ruby in person, and some other lovely people, and chat about being an illustrator and all the various challenges there are.

I like drawing from life because:

  • It sparks stories - looking at something and drawing it makes it come alive in my head, or see something ordinary in a totally different way.

  • It makes way more interesting drawings - for some reason drawing quickly, wonkily makes the line fresher and more spontaneous

I’ve added some of my drawings to my sketchbook page - click to see!

I hope to join another drawing event soon!
