100 DAY PROJECT

This news page has been rather neglected…how about this…I’ll set myself a goal of updating my news page once a month, instead of once every sort of third or fourth month.

Speaking of goal-setting, I’ve plunged headlong into a massive goal: a 100 Day Project! What is a One Hundred Day Project? Well, I don’t know much about it except that you’re doing something small every day for a 100 days. Some people do exercise, push ups or sit ups or whatever; other people do gardening or piano practice…the idea is that those accumulative efforts add up to something larger with visible, if not measurable results.

I’m doing drawing of course. But I’m not doing it alone! Way back last summer holidays, illustrator Kathryn Boyt was feeling disconnected from her usual drawing during the school summer holidays with the children at home. So whilst she couldn’t devote who days to drawing, she began drawing daily, for thirty minutes, wherever she found herself, using three materials only and posting them on instagram.

Kathryn pledged to draw every day this way for every day of the summer holidays. I think this adds up to a total of around sixty days. Pretty soon, other artists joined in, like Charlotte Durance and Naomi Tipping, and then me! Although I was a bit late joining in for the last two and half weeks or so.

Fast forward to this May, and Kathryn, Charlotte and Naomi are hosting the challenge again on instagram, this time for One Hundred Days. From 5th May, artists are drawing and posting under the hashtag 3materialsdrawingchallenge; each drawing for thirty minutes (or less) using three materials only.

The project is due to finish on 22nd September - it’s amazing to imagine what might be achieved by then. That includes all of this half term, summer holidays and well into the Autumn term at school, during which time literally loads could happen.
