1/2 Marathon!
I must be mad, but last year I signed up for The Oxford Half marathon to raise money for The Story Museum. 12 months seemed quite far away back then, but now suddenly - it’s next weekend! Eek. I’m running to raise money for The Story Museum and the amazing outreach projects they do. The Story Museum is not only a great place to visit, but it’s also a charity that helps hundreds of children in Oxfordshire gain access to stories, books, reading and improve their learning and life chances.
Did you know that children who read for pleasure are more likely to gain five or more GCSEs? People who read for pleasure are more likely to take part in public life and vote in elections. The Story Museum also supports oralcy and communication, empowering young people to tell their own story. Oxford is a city of two halves - at first glance, it’s a centre of learning, privilege and excellence; but it’s also a city that has over a quarter of its children living below the poverty line, who have to overcome a whole variety of obstacles
But they can’t do this work without public support. The Story Museum is a registered charity, and relies on funding and donations to carry out its work. So that’s why I’m doing this!
